We have experience of pursuing our clients’ rights under the Human Rights Act, immigration laws and in relation to the abuse of State powers. Our track record includes the following:
- We have acted for an individual in one of the longest-running and most serious US extradition requests. The gravity of allegations against our client (which he strenuously denies) have demanded sustained and thorough representation at each stage of the proceedings.
- We are currently acting for an individual who has been harmed by and is seeking recourse against the UK government for acts arising from an abuse of power in its pursuit of alleged national security interests.
- We are acting for a surviving family member seeking recognition of the wrongs committed by the UK government (in breach of UN resolutions) through its aerial bombing of targets in Iraq under the ‘no fly zone’ during a period of sanctions against Iraq. We are helping our client decide on the most appropriate forum before which to bring attention to this tragedy.

An example of our approach
The problem
Our client (a UK resident) was listed by the Sanctions Committee of the United Nations Security Council because of allegations that he is associated with a terrorist organisation. These allegations (which are strenuously denied) have resulted in his funds being frozen and his freedom to travel being curtailed.
Our approach
Our client approached us in some distress because of the injustice he felt at being listed incorrectly. We challenged the imposition of sanctions by making detailed representations to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and initiating proceedings in the Court of First Instance of the European Communities and we threatened judicial review proceedings (in the English courts). The purpose was to secure our client’s de-listing.
The solution
Our client’s battle is still on-going. However our efforts have resulted in the UK government (which enforces the sanctions rules in the UK) agreeing to submit a request for de-listing to the United Nations.
Our client’s assessment
“Mr Raja [’s] response was always impressive … in terms of passion and attention … [he] is keen to keep his clients informed, discuss everything in detail and stay easily accessible even at weekends. He is very careful in his choice of barristers. He encourages his clients to contribute with maximum input …”
